Enjoy a day of splendour and beauty at Harewood House, a grand Georgian mansion set amongst rolling landscapes. Stroll round the 100 acres of garden, shady woodland and lakeside paths which overlook the landscape created by Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown. Admire the extensive collection of flowers and foliage from across the world. You can walk round the Terrace Gallery which was designed as a link between the house and grounds. Today it has been transformed into a contemporary art gallery, with artists’ work such as Antony Gormley, Sir Sidney Nolan, Andy Goldsworthy, David Hockney, Andy Warhol and Dame Elizabeth Frink gracing their walls. Finally, you will walk round the Below Stairs, the area in which service staff previously lived and worked. Grooves in the floor still remain from years of busy footsteps of the hundreds of staff who once walked these corridors. Open up cupboards and draws to find original utensils and equipment from years gone by. To top off your exploration of Harewood House, you will be treated to a traditional afternoon tea seated at a prime table in the Terrace Café, which overlooks the Italianate Terrace and Capability Brown landscape. Your experience includes entrance to Harewood House and an afternoon tea for two. You will have access to the gardens, Terrace Gallery and Below Stairs. As part of your traditional afternoon tea, you will enjoy a selection of freshly baked cakes, from brownies, to Yorkshire curd tart, rich fruit cake, and the classic homemade scone. As well as sandwiches, cut to the traditional triangle, filled with cucumber, Yorkshire ham with light mustard mayonnaise and smoked salmon and cream cheese. A pot of loose leaf tea and coffee and two glasses of La Dolce Colline Prosecco will finish off your tea wonderfully. Upon arrival, please hand in your voucher to the Visitor Reception where you will be issued with a ticket for the afternoon tea. This should then be given to the waiter/waitress in the café.
